The area of Infectious Diseases, under the direction of Dr. Jose Anonio Oteo, is a clear example of the permeability which exists between the area of research and the area of health care at the San Pedro hospital, since it combines the health care given in Infectious Diseases at the San Pedro hospital with the research carried out at the CIBIR. This area of research includes both the unit of infectious diseases transmitted by Arthropod Vectors (centre of reference) and the Unit of research into HIV and associated Metabolic Alterations.
