Biosketch

Ignacio Ruiz studied veterinary medicine at the University of Zaragoza, where he graduated in 2006. From 2006 to 2011 he worked in the area of Parasitology in the Department of Animal Pathology in the same university. His research focused on mosquito and black fly control developing several projects such as the bioecological study of bloodsucking dipterans for the 2008 International Exposition in Zaragoza or the improvement of the black fly control programs in Aragon. In 2011 and 2012 he worked as Technical director of the company Quimera Biological Systems developing a CDTI project in biological control of mosquitoes. At the same time he studied the Master of Public Health of the University of Zaragoza. In 2014 and 2015 he worked for Valent Biosciences on the project on the situation of mosquito control in Spain.

At present, he works as Researcher at Center of Rickettsiosis and Arthropod-Borne Diseases in the Center for Biomedical Research of La Rioja, Logroño, Spain. And he is also working towards his PhD on black flies tackling different aspects on the bioecology and behavior of the species that have an impact on Public Health in Spain. His interest in black fly topic led him to organize the VII International Simuliidae Symposium in Zaragoza (Spain) in September 2016.

Ignacio Ruiz has participated and is currently participating in various projects related to the medical and veterinary entomology in Spain, Europe and Latin America such as the Barcoding of Spanish Black Flies or the Mosquito Alert Project. In addition, he participates as lecturer in courses and congresses and has several scientific papers.
