Los avances en ciencia y tecnología pueden ser un motor clave del desarrollo. Sin embargo, si no se tiene en cuenta un marco ético, ciencia y tecnología pueden convertirse en factores de riesgo para la salud y el bienestar de los seres humanos. Uno de los objetivos principales de la bioética es hacer un análisis ético de las cuestiones relacionadas con la asistencia sanitaria y el bienestar de los seres humanos que acompañan el desarrollo de la ciencia y la tecnología.
Establecer y compartir estándares éticos globales así como también promover la práctica de un comportamiento ético profesional de los profesionales sanitarios y de los investigadores, son instrumentos importantes como la bioética contribuye a la construcción de una sociedad global más humana, responsable, justa y solidaria.
Las actividades de investigación que desarrolla el Centro Nacional de Documentación en Bioética se canalizan a través de la Plataforma de Bioética y Educación Médica de la Fundación Rioja Salud.
